Proper vascular device selection will result in fewer complications. Midlines are recommended for patients receiving intravenous therapy compatible for PIV for more than 5 days or for patients with difficult vasculature. A Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) is recommended for long term intravenous therapy and for the administration of any therapy that is considered a vesicant.
